How to keep your MeAura furniture beautiful for years?

How to keep your MeAura furniture beautiful for years?

Your MeAura cat tree is crafted from natural rattan and solid wood — materials chosen for their beauty, durability, and timeless aesthetic. With a little care, your piece will stay looking its best for years to come.

 1. Keep It Away from Direct Sunlight and Heat Sources

Natural rattan and wood thrive in bright, indirect light — the kind that fills a beautiful Perth morning. However, prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight can cause fading, drying, and cracking over time.

Tip: Position your cat tree near a window with a sheer curtain, or rotate it occasionally if it sits in a sunny spot. Also keep it away from direct heaters or fireplaces, which can dry out the wood and cause warping.

 2. Maintain a Stable Indoor Environment

Natural wood and rattan respond to changes in humidity and temperature. For best results, keep indoor humidity levels between 40–60% and avoid placing your cat tree in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations — such as near air conditioning vents or in uninsulated rooms.

Stable environments help prevent the wood from expanding, contracting, or cracking over time.

 3. Clean Gently with a Damp Cloth

For dust, hair, or light spills, wipe down with a well-wrung damp cloth — then dry immediately. Never soak rattan or leave it wet, as prolonged moisture can weaken the fibres and cause warping.

Avoid: Harsh scrubbing, abrasive cloths, or chemical cleaners that can fray the natural fibres or strip the wood finish.

 4. Care for the Wooden Base

The solid wood base is the foundation of your MeAura piece. To keep it in great condition:

  • Wipe away dust or hair with a well-wrung damp cloth
  • Keep away from direct heaters or fireplaces
  • Consider re-applying wood wax oil once a year to nourish the wood and maintain its natural lustre
  • Avoid chemical cleaners that can strip the natural finish

The wood will develop a gentle patina over time — this is completely normal and adds character.

 5. Allow Air Circulation

Natural materials breathe best with good airflow around them. Avoid placing your cat tree in enclosed, poorly ventilated corners for extended periods — especially in humid conditions.

 6. Refresh the Scratching Post When Needed

The kraft paper rope scratching post will naturally show wear over time — that's a sign your cat is using it well. When it starts to look worn, contact us about our replacement rope service. A fresh wrap restores the post without replacing the entire piece.

 A Note on Patina

Like all natural materials, rattan and wood develop a gentle patina over time — a subtle deepening of tone that comes with age and use. This isn't wear; it's character. Many of our customers find their MeAura piece becomes even more beautiful with time.
